Al igual que ocurriera el año pasado, los pilotos de Fórmula 1 se han negado rotundamente a pagar la Superlicencia, equivalente al carnet de conducir F1, porque creen que el dinero que pagan es excesivo. El año pasado, la FIA la aumentó su precio de 447 € a 2000 € por cada punto conseguido, y de 1690 € a 10000 € por el precio fijo. Ahora, tendrán que pagar 10400 € por el precio fijo, 2100 € por cada punto conseguido, y 2720 € por un seguro que se aplica este año.
La asociación de pilotos ha aconsejado a los corredores no firmar sus Superlicencias y pedir al presidente de la FIA Max Mosley y a la FOTA que estudien el asunto. Pero al parecer, la FOTA parece estar impasible ante dicha demanda, dadas las consecuencias que la grave crisis financiera del momento está teniendo sobre la máxima categoría del mundo del motor.
En un correo electrónico enviado a todos los pilotos, además de invitarles a no firmar ni pagar, se les comunica que este asunto se estudiará en la próxima reunión de la FOTA el próximo 3 de febrero, así que deben esperar tres semanas más. Esto dará tiempo suficiente para escuchar la opinión de los componentes de la FOTA, y de esta manera aumentar la presión sobre la FIA.
